practice will be held on Thursday, July 4 in honor of the U.S. Day of Independence.
The third quarter is here; the cost is $110 for July to September (or $45 per month). You may give your payment
to your coach or mail it to address below.
Your Coach Needs a Sub
In 2003, a handful of swimmers
asked me to return to Masters coaching. I agreed but under two conditions: I would only coach one practice a day
and if I needed a day off then volunteers would have to step forward (or practice would be cancelled). Over the
years the program has grown to other sites and a variety of times. The same conditions are in place for the other
pools – those coaches need breaks throughout the year. You are encouraged to connect with your coach and
see when they need a sub during this summer.
Kroc – July 17, 18 & 19
DiVentures – July 24, 26,
29 & 31
CSM - TBD
Integrity at Swim Practice
#1 - “Maintain
the integrity of the interval.” This is a quote used at practice on occasion. When given multiple sets, as one set ends
with the interval that is the beginning of the next set. We want to avoid taking an extra twenty seconds rest to
regroup or change leaders.
#2 – Stay off the bottom of the pool! Do
not walk on the bottom of the pool. Do not stop and stand on bottom if you swim up on someone. Figure
out the order of your lane and leave five seconds apart. If you are catching up with the person in front of you,
then switch places.
#3 – Leave the pull buoys on the deck unless a pull
set is given. If the word pull is not mentioned in the instructions then the default activity is SWIM.
Timed 550 returns.
Many years ago, our program used to do a test swim called the ‘Timed 550.’ It
was a little stressful but was extremely helpful in practice management. We knew what a person was capable of doing
for an interval, and we knew what lane a person should swim. The beginning of August (5,6&7) the Timed 550
will be making its return. If you swim it on the first day, then you will be doing a regular practice the other
