Fitness and Fun
The 25th Annual Methodist
Hospital/ UNO Women’s Mini-Triathlon will be held on Saturday, August
26. This is an awesome event! It is fun to see so many people of different ages and ability levels participating (and so many people
helping). Only women and girls can participate. Guys we would like you to volunteer. Our
goal this year is to have 300 participants. Reaching this goal
would be very exciting! We need all of our women Masters swimmers
to encourage neighbors, friends, colleagues, and family to get active. An
entry form is coming; when you receive it please forward to friends, colleagues, family, and neighbors.
Build-A-Bike - Helping foster children get around
in Omaha!
Every day, children in Omaha leave the foster care system. Unfortunately, many of these kids end up
homeless and without a job. The Build-A-Bike event will help
kids get to school, job interviews, and help them get the childhood they deserve while they are in the foster care system.
I will be partnering with Together We Rise and Omaha Bicycle Company with the hope to raise as much money and build as many
bikes as possible!
Together We Rise is a non-profit organization that helps children through
the foster care system with event like Build-A-Bike! On average, 1,200 children go into the foster care system every day.
Many of these children enter with nothing but a trash bag full of their belongings and no way to get around. Let's try and
change that!!
Omaha Bicycle Company is a local bike shop based in Benson. Sarah Johnson, the owner, is a huge advocate
for getting out and riding around our community. As Vice Chair of Mode Shift Omaha, Sarah is excited to be a part of this
event and to get kids out riding around!
