Something that is requested of every member in our program is to ‘give back’ to the sport of swimming
(read more on this below). Erin and Mary Pat put together another wonderful Masters Holiday Party this past weekend
– thank you!
Holiday Break
The last
day of Masters Practice for 2011 will be Friday, December 23. The first day of practice for 2012 will be Tuesday, January
3.
Supreme Dictators Needed/ Gate Keepers Needed
The annual pilgrimage to the sun (also know as winter training camp) for the UNOmaha Women’s
Swim Team will be from December 29 to January 7. Some volunteer coaches (Supreme Dictators) are needed to keep our practices
going. Practices will be written out in advance, but you can always change it to do whatever you feel would be ‘fun’
– just part of the benefits of being Supreme Dictator. If you are willing, then respond at your earliest convenience
– the goal is to have a different coach for each practice. Here are the dates: January 3, January 5, and
January 7.
The month of January pulls me away on every Saturday to coach the UNOmaha Women’s
Swim/Dive Team. So along with January 7, a Supreme Dictator (volunteer coach) is needed for the following Saturdays;
January 14, January 21, and January 28. If you can help (or feel the need for power) then contact Todd at tsamland@unomaha.edu.
It’s That Time of Year
Our
Masters program requires four things:
- You must be a current United States Masters Swimming
(USMS) member. Registering for USMS can be done on-line by going to www.usms.org. Once to the USMS screen, then click on the ‘Join/ Renew’ button and follow the steps to
register on-line. This is vital because it is our insurance policy. Everyone has to be in or the insurance is
void. This can be done now and MUST be completed by the time you swim your first practice in January 2012. (note:
if you signed up in November 2011, then your membership is covered in 2012).
- You will need
to pay an annual Administrative Fee for the program and fill out the information sheet if you are new to the program; name,
address, birthday, and e-mail. The fee is $20, with checks being made out to ‘Samland.’ For UNOmaha/
UNMC students, College of St. Mary students, and Creighton students the Administrative fee will be waived
- You will need to pay Coaching Fees for the program. The quarterly fee is $90. An option will be offered
for paying a monthly fee of $35. The monthly fee is determined as a monthly calendar, not as a 30 day cycle. UNOmaha
students and College of St. Mary students will have a reduced rate of $15 per month and are requested to pay for 3 months
at a time. Each individual determines the number of days they swim per month. Coaching fees will not be pro-rated,
if you swim 1 day or 20 days the financial responsibility remains the same.
- You are requested
to ‘give back’ to the sport of swimming!! This is not mandatory nor will it be managed. Giving can
come in many forms. You can become a booster club member. You can volunteer at a swim meet; Masters, College,
High School, Age Group, YMCA, or Summer League. You can be a promoter of our masters swim program. You can be
a volunteer coach for our program. Or it can be as simple as ‘putting in’ lane ropes or ‘taking out’
lane ropes for our own swim practice. ‘Giving back’ is important to the philosophy of this program!
To eliminate any confusion, a bill will be mailed to each current Masters swimmer for the fees
to be covered for the first quarter of 2012!
Icy Sidewalks
Please be careful as you are arriving and leaving practice. This time of year the sidewalks
can be a little slick. Take you time and be cautious.

This seem appropriate to post again at this time J What happens if the weather is looking a little dicey? Well
if you are not sure, call 554-2346.
That is the office phone number for Todd at UNOmaha. The voice mail will be updated 30 minutes prior to the start
of practice.
