Save the Date
The annual Holiday Social
will be held on Saturday, December 11 at
6:00 pm. The event will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 60th and Walnut St. More
details will be coming out soon.
Thanksgiving
My favorite holiday of the year is soon
arriving. Thanksgiving is the BEST of all Holidays with friends, family, food, and leftovers – it just doesn’t
get much better than this. If you do not have any plans for Thanksgiving, then please consider this an invitation to
join me at our home, 3513 S. 94 Ave.
Dinner is at 4 pm (and you
can be late or early). Singles, couples, current members, past members - all are welcome! If you would like to
be part of a great meal, contact me at tsamland@unomaha.edu
or call Kathleen at 932-1311 – hope to see a few of you J
Eat, Drink, and be Merry
The College of Saint Mary campus will be closed
for the Thanksgiving Holiday. No practice on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday (11/25 – 11/27).
Inclement
Weather Information
What happens if the weather is looking a little dicey?
Well if you are not sure, call 554-2346.
That is the office phone number for Todd at UNOmaha. The voice mail will be updated 30 minutes prior to the start
of practice.
Mutual Of Omaha Invite
On December 3 & 4 UNOmaha Women’s Swimming and Diving
team will be hosting a major invite. If you would like to volunteer then contact me at tsamland@unomaha.edu. Here
are some positions/responsibilities that need to be filled: announcer, communicate results (post), timer, etc. Mornings
for both days start at 9:30 and will
finish about 1:30 pm, finals start
at 5:30 pm and finish around 8:30
pm (Saturday starts an hour earlier).
Holiday Wreaths
Wreaths
have already been ordered and will arrive the week after Thanksgiving. They will be brought to the pool for the exchange
from me to you. We do have a few more wreaths because we have to order in cases. If you are interested in one
of the extra wreaths then let me know so we can get you into the holiday spirit.
USMS renewal
It is soon coming – time to renew your USMS membership. This must be
done before January 1. Go on
line to www.usms.org to get this task done.
Nationals 2012
It doesn’t happen often – probably once
in a lifetime, an opportunity to participate in a National championship in your hometown. In July 2012, you will get this chance with the National Championships
being held in the Olympic Trial pool in the Qwest Center (a few days after the Trials). You can compete in the same
lanes as the US Olympians!
Our program is going to train towards this event starting
January 2011. So let’s
answer a few questions that may pop up. I would like each swimmer in our program to strongly consider participating!
Do you have to be a lane one swimmer in order to participate? NO! All USMS swimmers are permitted to swim
in three events without meeting a time qualifying standard. You may be asking, what if I don’t want to swim in a meet?
Then you don’t have to and I hope that you keep practicing with us. How will practices change? Each
week will have more of a focus - sprint, descend, push pace, etc. Also the Timed 550 will be back. Once every
couple of months we will do a timed 550 yard swim at a Saturday practice, this will be announced in this newsletter prior
to the swim. This is used to help give more specific intervals. Also a few practices a month will be changed to
a clinic oriented format for starts, turns, stroke, or race strategy. Again the dates will be announced in this newsletter.
Do you have to do the Timed 550 and participate in the clinic practices in order to participate at Nationals? No.
If you do the Timed 550 and the clinic practices do you have to participate at Nationals? No. This is just
a very fun opportunity J
I have probably
said enough at this point and should now ask for questions. Please share with me any thoughts, concerns, or general
questions.
