July 2009 Newsletter July 4th
No practice will be held on Saturday, July 4th
in honor of the U.S. Day of Independence.
Third
Quarter
The third quarter is fast approaching; the cost is $75 for July to September.
Please pay by July 12. If you are not sure what you need to pay, then please contact Todd.
Since
September 2007 we have been gradually losing swimmers, but June 2009 was a different story. This up-tick
in swimmers in comparison to other June’s and could be for many different reasons: new swimmers at the 7 am practice,
some triathletes swimming for the summer, and a few swimmers returning to practice. Two other trends have been noticed
this month. The average attendance at practice has been less this year than the past, again credit to the 7 am practice.
The second trend is the increase attendance of Saturday practice. These are all great elements that make for a
vibrant program – Thank You for swimming Masters!
Supreme Dictator
Needed
I have been invited to help run a swim camp up in Okoboji
this year. The camp will run July 16, 17 and 18. Help will be needed to keep our program going while I am gone.
If you can coach one practice (6 am or 7 am), then that would be wonderful. A practice will be left as guidance
for each day, but when you coach then you have complete power to change it and do whatever you want. Yes, you can become
Supreme Dictator and with your power you can affect the waking minutes of many people in our city. Please e-mail Todd
if you can coach.
Fitness or Fun
The 17th
Annual Women’s Only Triathlon (new name for the event – Methodist Hospital/ UNO Women’s Triathlon) will be held on Saturday, August 29. This
is an awesome event! It is fun to see so many people of different ages and ability levels participating (and so many
people helping). Only women can participate and only men can volunteer. Last year we had over 300 participants
and this year a new goal has been set - 400. So we need all of our women Masters swimmers to encourage neighbors, friends,
colleagues, and family to get active. See attached entry form and send it to some other people J
Olympic Trials
They are coming
back! Omaha will be hosting the 2012 Olympic Trials. Hopefully we can attain one of the pools for Omaha after
the meet. If you have any thoughts on how to accomplish this feat then please share your ideas.
